Beachgoers from Florida to New England
have been warned to be aware of rip
currents as Hurricane Erin churns off
the US East Coast. While the storm isn't
isn't expected to make landfall,
forecasters have warned of possible
life-threatening flooding in North
Carolina as Erin swirls northwards in
the Atlantic Ocean. Erin has already
swamped homes and roads in the US island
territory of Puerto Rico and is forecast
to get even bigger. Dan Deodwin is vice
president of forecast operations at ACUE
weather and told us more about what to
expect.
>> Hurricane Aaron will be making a pass
close to the US East Coast over the next
couple days as we head through the
middle of the week. No landfall, but
significant impacts along the North
Carolina coast, Outer Banks, even parts
of southeast New England. You can see
here on the ACE weather path with Aaron
recurving as most hurricanes do but
still because of the size of Aaron very
large windfield and it's been uh a storm
for a long period of time. So
significant swells and waves have been
generated by the storm that those will
approach and impact the North Carolina
and Virginia coasts and even much
farther northeast into parts of Atlantic
Canada over the next couple of days. And
that's why we have this whole area
outlined from Florida up into Atlantic
Canada through the end of the week.
dangerous seas, rip current. So, even if
it's a blue sky, going to be dangerous
at the beach for those who are
vacationing, significant impacts in the
Outer Banks. There's been evacuations,
road closures are in effect due to road
overwash from the rough surf. And
finally, the wave height, significant
waves, uh, three to six meter waves with
Aaron offshore and then moving into the
Outer Banks here over the next couple of
days. A significant impact to coastal
regions along the east coast.
show you some pictures from Nags Head,
North Carolina. Those flags. Well, it's
definitely a breezy beach day. And let's
listen in.
Oh, that is uh yeah, that is what you
call a stiff breeze. I think it's fair
to say. Um not exactly a day for being
on the beach. Um unless you're very very
hardy indeed.
